At our last meeting in February, the membership present voted to donate $500 to the Crisis Center's Wine Fest in support of their numerous programs for children in need of help. The 26th Annual Wine Fest, of which Gary Rotary was one of the founding partners, will be June 11, 2020, at Sand Creek Country Club. In addition to this donation, the members voted to donate the remaining amount in our Special Projects fund (approximately $600) to the Sojourner Truth Walk, scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2020. Get your walking shoes ready for this great event.
Further, the members voted to support the Gary Youth Services Bureau summer work program, particularly with the Cities Connecting Children to Nature program which is seeking to create an urban garden at the old Gleason Park North golf range.
Also at our meeting Mark Stern made a contribution so that we would NOT sing happy birthday to him .... his 88th; happy bucks were donated by Joyce Davis because she has only 3 months left in her term as president; Eric Tonk for a successful ski trip and an upcoming trip to Costa Rica; Dick Hagelberg for successful oral surgery; and Doreen Carey because she has nothing about which to be sad.
