Thanks to all Gary Rotarians who were able to help re-launch our "Little Free Library" for the Miller Beach Area residents this past Saturday.

Special thanks to Rotarian Workers: Natalie Johnson, Erik Tonk, Dick Hagelberg assisted by Rotarian Helpers (a.k.a “Sidewalk Superintendents”) Warren Johnson, Gene Ayers, Steve Uhlarik and Jack Tonk.

This new bigger Free Library replaced one quite near our current site on N. Shelby St. just north of the Beach Café which has served the public for the last 6 years.
Little Free Library is a 501 nonprofit organization that promotes neighborhood book exchanges, usually in the form of a public bookcase. More than 150,000 public book exchanges are registered with the organization. The first official Little Free Library outside of the Hudson, Wisconsin area was put on a bike path in Madison in the summer of 2010. Within a few months, thousands of people had seen the library. More people started asking for Libraries. Amish carpenter Henry Miller, of Cashton, Wisconsin became the primary craftsman. He used wood recycled from a 100-year-old barn destroyed in a tornado. Today, more than 150,000 public book exchanges are registered with the organization.

Special thanks to Natalie Johnson for these pictures, for their posting on our Gary Rotary Club Facebook page, and for tagging its location with our Club Name on Google Maps for all to see.
